FV432 (Armoured personel carrier).

The FV432 series was developed to meet the requirements of the British Army in the late 1950s with the first prototype compleated in 1961. In 1962 GKN Sanky was awarded a production contract for the FV432and the first production vehicles were compleated in 1963. Production continued untill 1971 by which time about 3000 vehicles had been built. First production models were the Mk 1 petrol 432's followed by the Mk 2 and Mk 2/1 which were diesel's . For a short period the 432 was known as the Trojan but this name was droped to avoid confusion with the car company of the same name. This vehicle and its varients (approx 10) are used only by the British Army.
The 432 has a crew of two (Driver and Comander), it can also carry 10 infantrymen and all of there equiptment.
The all welded steel hull provides protection against small arms fire and shell splinters. This vehicle has amphibious capabilities with the aid of a floatation screen, and by using track propulsion has a top speed of 6.6 Kph in the water.

LOLLIPOP LADY STOPS TANK IN ITS TRACKS
Last year, Lollipop Lady Pat Quaife from Crawley and her husband Peter were on holiday in Bournemouth and took a coach trip that passed the Tank Museum at Bovington. Pat remarked to Peter that she had always wanted to drive a Tank and that it would be fun to stop one armed with her lollipop. Peter bought her a voucher to drive a variety of Tanks with Juniper Leisure, the Romsey based Military Tank and Armoured Vehicle Driving Company, and asked if they would permit the very fit 68 year old grandmother to have a go at stopping one in its tracks.
Juniper Leisure's Partners, father and son team Peter and Rob May, who own and operate what is thought to be Europe's largest private collection of military tracked vehicles which includes former British Armoured Corp Chieftains, Abbott self propelled guns, and FV432 APCs (Armoured Personnel Carriers), thought it was a wonderful idea. One of their top instructors was chosen to hit the brakes of the 55 ton Chieftain as Pat, who has been stopping traffic at St. Francis School, Southgate in Crawley on and off since the sixties, stepped out and signalled it to halt.
'I only wish the children from the school could have been there,' says Pat. 'It was great fun.'
Pat then went on to drive the Chieftain and other tracked vehicles during the afternoon that usually provide corporate incentive and promotional days for businesses, as well as frequent public drive days.
